Our “repair-and-resell” approach

Many vehicle donation programs sell vehicles “as-is.” DVEN’s program is different: depending on the vehicle’s condition, we may invest time and repairs to improve value, helping generate more dollars for veteran programs and, in some cases, increasing the documented value of your gift. We call this our Material Improvement Program.

Important tax note: Under IRS rules, your deductible amount often depends on whether the charity sells the vehicle “as-is” versus uses it significantly or materially improves it. Your written acknowledgment (often Form 1098-C) will document the relevant details.

Vehicle donations with a claimed value over $500 generally require a proper written acknowledgment and Form 1098-C, which must be attached to the tax return to claim the deduction.  Our team provides this document.
When the charity sells the vehicle without significant intervening use or material improvement, the deduction is limited to the gross proceeds from the sale (as documented).
